Good film in which a man who is convinced of his demonic powers sees a psychiatrist. A mysterious and good story told entertainingly through flashbacks of different characters. Quite exciting here and there (including the excellent finale, although it is not equally credible everywhere).

Film opens with Munch's Scream, then a murder takes place and finally when the opening credits run we look at the painting Medusa by Caravaggio. A little later in the film also an Escher (Bound of Union) and a Magritte (Tous les Jours), among others...

Good roles from Richard Burton and Lee Remick. Richard Burton has a great charisma, those witty answers also to his adulterous wife haha.. Wonderful scene in the courtroom when he, as a lawyer, gives a speech for his client who had the idea to blow up a war museum.

Lee Remick's gray-blue X-ray eyes make her perfect for the role of the somewhat inscrutable psychiatrist Zonfeld and she does so with verve. I just read that he also died young, in '91 already. In terms of atmosphere, the film is somewhat similar to The Omen (also with Remick, by the way).

But, alas… the film loses in its last 30 minutes or so that subtle, psychological, enigmatic story, a delusional whodunit, so to speak, and transforms into a kind of blockbuster disaster film in which a disaster must be prevented with all the necessary fuss surrounding it .

Too bad, I would have loved to give this a 4.5 or 5. Oh well, who cares, I'll just make it a 4.5 and maybe one day a 5.
