Nice dance film with good acting by the lead actors. Story is of course like many other dance films, but they are usually not wrong. I thought it was about as good as Step up 1. You got served can't beat this movie! At the end, the expected event returns to the story as it is in all dance (competition) films. It's a bit cliche, but I really enjoyed this movie!

He's the best of the crew and can effortlessly take the first girl he sees from her boyfriend. Yes, Dj is a real hero. Sad to see it happen and the dance moves were more like a lightning strike. I didn't quite understand what they were all portraying now when they were waving around so ridiculously. If you look up some breakdance videos on youtube you just know that the level of the 'Theta Nu Theta' and their rival is very low. Apart from that, the participants in these activities display rather arrogant behavior and while it is very recognizable in that hip-hop world that everyone appreciates each other, they show remarkably little respect here. The people on the podium looked more like a bunch of mobsters who came to represent their street gang and marching like soldiers (assisted by torches and baseball bats) they gathered beforehand to impress the opponents. The girlfriend took about half the playing time and is completely filled with familiar passages.

Like other dance practices, this is another sad intention. Makers interested in this theme should invite professional break dancers to play in their production and if they want to fill things up further, it really doesn't have to be with such a soggy relationship. There are certainly other problems to consider and intensive training would not be out of place either.

Mediocre.

Another mediocre film in White's career, of which this is now my third film of his that I see. They have all received 2.0* so far. This Stomp the Yard doesn't manage to change that either, although I still had hope for it after the opening.

The opening is nicely electric and wonderfully portrayed. Nice cinematography, even nicer dance moves and nice rough camera work. It was actually just right. Not mounted too quickly, nicely decorated supports with cool dance steps and then you quickly have a good opening. Too bad White changes the tone after that.

It feels at first that White wanted to decorate every scene, but that feeling eventually fades. White apparently wanted to make the film a bit raw, but it mostly comes out boring. The conversations between the characters are not very engaging and neither are the characters themselves. Then the 115 minutes slowly become a very long sit.

In between, the film sometimes has to rely on fun energetic dance moves from which the film manages to get the most power. But the spaces between these scenes are filled by boringly designed drama scenes through which the necessary clichés walk rather clumsily. The writing probably wouldn't have been long. The choreography does, fortunately.

The finale is again bombastic, and together with the opening these are the sequences that liven up the most. For the rest, the attempts to make a raw drama mainly result in dullness and a long sitting. As a director, White has the talent and vision, but not yet the ability to turn his films into fascinating minutes. Unfortunate, but the best I've seen from him so far.
