Good film about an astronaut who makes a solo mission to a strange purple cloud in space. A love drama wrapped in a science-fiction film with existential dialogues that sometimes seem a bit vague. A nice, dreamy atmosphere that is enhanced by the beautiful music of Max Richter. Easily 3.5 stars.

Film in my genre, being an SF. But this one is more of a philosophical drama set in space. It is not a real monologue film, but Adam Sandler carries the film largely alone. It is mainly about what loneliness and 6 months of isolation in space does to a person, even if they are strong enough to be alone. Questions himself and his marriage. This also applies to his surviving wife. Furthermore, the graphics are beautifully displayed. Looks a bit 70's and Soviet-esque. Inside of spaceship kind of faded glory but realistically depicted. Exterior of spaceship not actually shown. Dialogues are quiet and borderline sleep-inducing, but never really annoying. Friendship with the alien / spider is somewhat abstract, but perhaps that is also the intention. Is it real or is it the imagination of a man who is slowly going insane? Top performance from Adam. Furthermore, you have to be open to this kind of melodrama. Soundtrack and genre film reminded me a bit of Interstellar, but I thought the latter was much better. But this movie is one I didn't see coming. Came out on Netflix today, had never heard of it, but I'll have to check it out. So it came in as a surprise and it didn't disappoint me. Didn't blow me away either. Still enjoyed it. 3.5 *

Strange, very slow science fiction film about a Czech astronaut (Adam Sandler) who experiences an existential crisis on a mission to Venus. Well made, with nice retro production design and beautiful visual effects, but the plot is very little and Sandler's character is very one-dimensional and boring. Fortunately, Paul Dano makes up for some things as the crazy space alien that suddenly appears on board. All in all, a major disappointment for director Johan Renck, whose previous achievement was the masterful miniseries Chernobyl.
