Sometimes in April plot

From April 1994, nearly 800,000 people died within 100 days during a purge by Hutu nationalists against their Tutsi compatriots in African Rwanda. This movie is based on true events. It tells the story of two brothers, politically divided by the conflict, and of the extraordinary courage and perseverance of the Rwandan people. Augustin Muganza and his best friend Xavier are Hutu soldiers and defy the instructions of their military superiors by saving Augustin's Tutsi wife and children from the horrific war. Augustin's brother Honoré, Hutu extremist, takes on the task but fails to get the family to safety. Ten years later, Augustin decides to leave the past behind and start a new life with his new love, Martine. Augustin is invited to attend the UN Tribunal in Arusha, where Honoré must answer for the role he played in this devastating civil war...

Few films have made such an impression on me as this one.

I knew something about what happened then, but the press and history books do not (have) thought about this nearly as much as they did with other terrible events such as WWII, Vietnam, etc.

When you see what happened anyway. And of course terrible things take place in all wars, but how here whole villages, including old people, women and especially children, have been massacred, it is truly unimaginable. Yet all this has happened.

The actors/actresses played really great. The story is of course also to blame for that. Awesome movie.

Gripping drama about a pitch-black page in history. The captivating story grabs you by the throat and some of the images are quite poignant. The cast also did well and convincingly. Quite sad and shameful that the West did not intervene at the time. To be honest, I didn't get much of this sad event at the time.
