Sånger från Andra Våningen plot

The film consists of a succession of tableaus in which many pale men can be seen who seem to be close to burnout. With a poem by César Vallejo ('Beloved the man who sits down') as a common thread, absurd and gloomy scenes about a gloomy zeitgeist alternate.

A very personal style that I can appreciate. I saw another film from the director before: A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence. You can also see that well-known style here. It reminds me of Monty Python again, but in Swedish with a dark edge. Python without copying Python. The film is not really a whole and sometimes feels a bit too long. But otherwise great characters and hilarious humor. You have to be a fan of the genre of course, but I want to see more of this.

Bizarre film that you have to love or at least feel like. Looks a lot like En Duva Satt på en Gren och Funderade på Tillvaron (2014), so I was warned.

I find it hard to judge. It is nothing substantive, but the transitions between drama, marginality and subtle humor are wafer-thin and difficult to draw. Dry as hell and satirical at times. It also helps when everyone shows up with a pale face. Depressing on the other side of how dull and gray life meets some without any perspective on any light. That gang that chastised themselves is very appropriate indeed in corona times...

Not forever and not for everyone. One that you might want to impose again if you're not put off by the "first time, never again" principle.

Nice review.

Wasn't really expecting much from it, but this film holds up well. This is mainly because Andersson serves a fairly unique piece of absurdism. Dry, melancholy, but always comical and amusing. And also with an eye for stylization, something that similar Scandinavian work often pays little attention to.

You don't have to hope for a plot, they are mostly separate scenes in which a number of characters return. With Lars Nordh as figurehead. Not really the most commercial choice, but found it to work here, mainly because the individual scenes are just very good.

Visually it is striking, often light, bleached white tones that underline the grayness and ugliness of the characters. The absurd layer also works very well, enough memorable moments and despite the fact that the film doesn't really go anywhere, still a nice finale.

4.0* and a extended review
