The data is the strongest point. It remains an interesting question - what would you do yourself in this situation, face an uncertain fate or live with your conscience.

There are a few things missing here and there. The role of the media - as often in a not so nice light - is being dragged in a bit too much. That really could have been better. Just like how it ends with Tony which is easily forgotten. And the tension isn't right either, and the choice for the obvious subplot is also a bit on the easy side.

Still a decent film, reasonably well played - but again without outliers. At least, I don't see it.

Nice film in which two men can save their mutual friend from the death penalty by going to prison themselves. A good story with a compelling moral dilemma. However, it could have been worked out better here and there and the romance between Vince Vaughn and Anne Heche is especially unnecessary and unbelievable. The acting itself is also fine. Just not 3.5 stars.

I didn't think the romance was so unbelievable as it started to take over the prison story seriously. Beth is of course the reason why Sherif decided to stay in the end but I find that less flattering for him than if he had acted out of friendship.

Personally, I think Brokedown Palace is slightly better. Return to Paradise is a lot more serious than the aforementioned film. The dilemma itself makes you feel bad. What would you decide for yourself? And frankly, I find it as difficult as Sherif to answer this. That makes it a fascinating film about responsibility and solidarity. Not a movie I would praise, but one I would recommend.
