Alice Winocour. A somewhat enigmatic director, who I really only know from the strong and oppressive film Maryland/Disorder. This film clearly has a connection with that - here too it is about feelings and relationships between people, and here too that is mainly told on screen and not spoken. This time with an impressively playing Eva Green in the lead role, and with beautiful images, an interesting setting and interesting locations.

But at the end I do wonder a bit what the message is that Winocour wants to convey. That it is worse for mothers to leave their child behind than for fathers? I think that's a bit outdated and old-fashioned. As old-fashioned and as questionable as Dillon's sneer at Green's cooking. If it weren't for that weird twist at the end, it would have been a much better movie for me.

Pretty good movie. You have to know what you're getting into. It's science fiction, but expect aliens or cool action.

It's really about the relationship and the feeling the mother gets when she knows she will have to miss her daughter for years.

In addition, Eva Green is just really a super pretty woman to look at. She splashes off the canvas.

Well worth it, if you know that the movie is more of a 'drama' movie cast in a sci-fi like story, you might enjoy it.

A pretty bland affair. The film was on my radar at the time, but I had lost track of it recently. Not entirely unjustified as it turns out. The film focuses on the imminent absence of Sarah, who will remain as an astronaut in the space station for a year. A hard nut to crack, especially for the daughter left behind. This is more than a business trip.

In itself, therefore, an excellent starting point in which you emphasize the psychic mental state of such space missions for both those leaving and those left behind. Interstellar also made something similar and then the impact was a lot bigger. It barely came out here. Then pay a little more attention to the preparations for the mission. Also quite interesting to follow, but it never impresses.

I also agree with blurp194 about the somewhat sexist approach of the film. No idea what they meant by this. Not that it bothered me, I did notice it.
