Beautiful understated film and finally Cage in a respectable film. A person would almost forget after all that mess that he can do this too, and how! He walks around with a bloodied head throughout the film. One that literally turns red, but never explodes. Cage gives his character a human and intriguing interpretation. His relationship with his pig is touching. It's just a shame that that last one quickly disappears from the screen.

It is also interesting that the film goes in the direction of culinary food. I loved that scene with Derek in the restaurant, for example. It also seemed to contain a moral lesson around the hectic life and the external rather than the intrinsic motivation of why you do something. Nice contrasts also in the film with Cage as a caveman in a star restaurant, the classical music, the sports car, his past and the dinner at the end of the film.

Here and there some illogical and unclear scenes such as the rumble in the basement or the end where he is very quickly satisfied with the revelation of the father. Until the end, Rob remains a strange mysterious man whose past is unraveled little by little, but not completely unraveled. Beautiful!

Pig is a nice cool and even intimate film, with a strong and subtle Nicolas Cage in the lead role. The film's premise reads "John Wick, but with Cage and a pig," but it's anything but. Director Sarnoski reins in Cage and delivers a very controlled work, in which the emotion certainly shines through towards the end. To the right degree, that is. It's not all that big, and Pig is also a great example of show, don't tell. There are no endless streams of information that are forced on the viewer; Sarnoski lets Cage and the story speak for themselves, and the viewer gets a lot of room to puzzle it out for themselves. The emotional core/message of the film is quite beautiful, and is beautifully articulated in the restaurant scene; We don't get a lot of things to really care about. But the final scenes also strike the right chord, and how food and emotions are intertwined is a successful thread running through the film. It may be simple, but that's what makes it effective. Cage is also well assisted by an equally subtle acting Alex Wolff. His character seems like such a stereotypical figure at first, but that too is turned upside down. And so Pig is ultimately a refreshing deconstruction of the revenge flick. 3.5*.

Nicolas Cage in his 100th film role (including voice roles). The actor makes a lot of films, but in recent years there are also more and more interesting titles among all that band work. Including this Pig. Michael Sarnoski makes his debut on a fairly low budget. All the more striking that in such a small film with an unknown director, Cage gives everything and without a doubt lifts the film up.

Pig knows the necessary intrigue, but is mainly a character film. It comes across as a revenge movie and for a moment it seemed to be heading towards an indie John Wick. But it goes the other way and becomes mainly a character film. But with the necessary intrigue and very atmospheric. Wonderful movie!
