Path to War plot

Lyndon B. Johnson was elected President of the United States in 1964. Like his predecessor John F. Kennedy, he wanted to be remembered as the man who would bring about social innovation. Instead, he became the symbol of a war that also tore his own country in two, and which he really didn't want to wage.

Haven't you been paying attention? Hell, they got hundred-year-old women re-supplying them!

Good film about Lyndon B. Johnson's presidency. The film is quite long but it is really worth every minute of watching. Especially because it is so educational, and I watched this film for my history final exam, it was also nice to be able to put a little more emotion into this war. In addition to the realistic and clear image that the film offers, it is also entertaining and fun to watch. Partly thanks to familiar faces, the film manages to receive enough concentration and Michael Gambon really plays the stars of heaven. His uncertainty, which was formed by his doubtful existence, his pressure to perform, was very palpable and the pressure from the advisors was also palpable because they could play convincingly and therefore really put forward their interests, with feeling. Lies moved at the end by our Gambon. Certainly a good film to gain some more clarity about the Vietnam issue directly with President Johnson, but it lacks any originality and the film is technically all right. But that's all there is to it. Sufficient, tending towards 3.5 stars, but for now still a 3. Perhaps a revision if I want to clarify the situation again. Well done!

Excellent film about President Johnson who is saddled with the war in Vietnam. Not a war film, but definitely a film about war that is unfortunately quite topical again. The film clearly shows how certain decisions are made and how it all escalates. Good acting and strong dialogues in this last film by John Frankenheimer.

Saw this great movie for the first time.

Very good to get some more background information about Johnson. In my memory a shriveled, somber-looking man talking with a southern accent.

In the film you see that the generals practice their hobby and that his advisors make a mess of it. Johnson denies his ideals.

It is not a one-dimensional biography. An attempt is also made to delve deeper into the personalities of various protagonists. This was certainly successful with Johnson. His stress, anger and conflict are well depicted and played. Lead actor Michael Gambon plays Johnson convincingly. Baldwin also puts McNamara well.

The 60s atmosphere is portrayed very well. Real footage is also used. Nicely woven into the film.

It becomes clear that the US overplayed itself in the Vietnam War. In my memory napalm girl, bombings, execution of Vietcong soldier, defoliants, flight from US and the many dead and maimed soldiers. The senselessness of the war is once again made visible. You could win wars then and you can no longer win them today. I'll just extend it to the Ukraine war. Absurd war and in the Netherlands we are guided by defense forces who want more weapons and populists who are looking for nice jobs.

The film is well worth the length.
