Odna Voyna plot
May 1945. Five young women and their young children, whose fathers are German soldiers, are exiled to an island on Lake Ladoga in northern Russia. May 9 brings them the happy news that the war is over, but also the sad news that the mothers have to go to labor camps and that the children are placed in orphanages. One of the guards feels sorry for the group, and the next morning takes them to the mainland, hoping they can hide in the dense forests. His major, a man whose family died in the gas chambers, knows about the plan but decides to keep his mouth shut, endangering himself.
