The ending is of course absurd and if you cling to credibility then the film is immediately a big disappointment.

But anyway, I have been fascinated for an hour and a half following this exciting intrigue, with completely enough scenes to think of Hitchcock.

Actually, I think this is one of De Palma's better films, not to mention the smooth, beautiful music by Bernard Herrmann.

Cliff Robertson is good in his role of a man in love with an illusion, although Geneviève Bujold and John Lithgow were at least as good.

De Palma flies out of the corner with Obsession as far as I'm concerned. A real blunder. Completely unbelievable. And especially the ending. I also thought the movie was way too long. The tension was also lost for me and I missed a really nice plot. The acting was very hit and miss, I like John Lithgow in itself, but the protagonist Cliff Robertson has almost no mimicry and hardly puts any feeling into his game. Genevieve Bujold is a pleasant appearance but not the very best actress.

You always expect something more from the director who has made these films such as Carlito's Way, The Untouchables, Dressed to Kill, Sisters, Carrie, Casualties of War, Femme Fatale and of course not to forget Scarface. Unfortunately, I thought this was one of his weakest works I've seen. However, the data is an ideal net for a web of mysteries, but they are quickly and fairly clearly revealed to the viewer in all sorts of ways. You quickly understand the mystery and the double role of Geneviève Bujold comes across as strange and unbelievable. Cliff Robertson plays lukewarm, fortunately there is still John Lithgow. It's not bad, but like I said this is just an average movie from Brian De Palma. 6/10
