Powerful (court) drama, based on a true story from the 1980s. Single mother goes to work in local mine to support her family. It shows in a very realistic way how hard this men's world is and what the miners do to humiliate and intimidate the women. This is mainly done through sexual harassment. The perpetrators excuse their behavior because they believe that women are not suitable for this work and they take the jobs from the men in the area. In addition, the story shows the prejudices and narrow views that the environment has about divorced and abused women who have had a child at a young age without knowing the real background of this. The film was shot in the gray environment where the miners live and work. This makes the atmosphere of leading a hard life palpable. Good acting and no-nonsense camera work. My rating: 3.5 stars.

Very good movie this. Social drama about sexual harassment in a mining company. I didn't know this movie and it will definitely stay with me as one of Theron's strongest acting performances. Fairly heavy but very strong drama centered around the well-developed character Josey Aimes. This woman really had little luck in life: an illegitimate son who hates her, a father who despises her, no work. You'd be putting a bullet in the head for less. Then she meets an old friend, Dodge, who helps her get a job at the mine where her father also works. But that is the beginning of a humiliating series of sexual harassment that the women have to endure every day. The scene where some guys knock over a mobile toilet with Monaghan in it was really disgusting. However, Aimes does not give a damn and hires a lawyer to bring her employer to justice. . America has always been very macho and men seem to only see women as sex objects. The film isn't just about standing up for rights, there's more drama to come. Dodge is struck down by an incurable nervous disease and Aimes carries a heavy secret from the past with her. The first I found a somewhat forced addition that was not really necessary, but the second, on the other hand, fits very well into the whole. The film has a real top cast with names such as Woody Harrelson, Frances McDormand, Sean Bean, Richard Jenkins, Sissy Spacek and Jeremy Renner. A top scene came when Aimes' father stands up for his daughter during a union meeting where she is verbally assaulted...

Film about extreme sexual intimidation, but also about how society easily drops someone who has just gone wrong and overloads them with sins.

Based on true events, but at times seems to me to play strongly on the sentiment, which ultimately also manifests itself in a haunting final scene in court.

The build-up with time jumps has been successful and Charlize Theron is very deserving.
