I myself was actually little concerned with deciphering metaphors/symbolism and I was overwhelmed by the total WTF feeling that the film brings about. I haven't been so stunned in a cinema in ages. The finale and the run-up to it is really a great grotesque piece of cinema that radiated so much power and energy that I felt completely stunned by the end. Thanks in part to the close-to-the-skin style that provides an even more immersive viewing experience.

I can accept the criticisms here, but for me they did not detract from the overwhelming experience that Aronofsky presents here. A ticking time bomb that explodes in a wonderfully unsubtle way in the last 45 minutes or so. Grand cinema. 4.5*.

Nice!

A bit confusing that this is released so widely in the cinema (also worldwide), the theory that says that the distributor mainly wanted to earn back his money as quickly as possible based on the star power of Lawrence, I believe. But I can't be sad about it.

Nice to see a movie like this in the cinema. Excellent sound design and a camera that sticks to the characters make for a very claustrophobic experience. At least, the first part, because the second part is so bombastic that the film switches to full rollercoast.

Aronofsky's nod to The Exterminating Angel clearly shows that this film is not a literal story. The symbolism is therefore omnipresent and not very subtle, but the most fascinating thing is that there are several explanations floating around that are all defensible, but none of which are conclusive. As a filmmaker, you have gold in your hands, of course.

Aronofsky finally once again really on level. That was quite some time ago. In any case, remains a special filmmaker, glad to have seen this film in the cinema.

4.5* and a extended review

Tzo, after two cinema turns I couldn't contain myself.

Long English essay written in which I give my interpretation of mother! explain and argue how all the pieces (setting, characters, events) fell into place for me while watching. Doesn't take away from the fact that there are still countless different interpretations and openings of course, but here's my contribution:
