Harmony completely changes his style. Visually a bit cleaner, but not yet as glossy as it will show itself next year. I think this is Korine's best so far. The change in style also seems to make Korine more narrative and cinematic. The use of celebrity characters also only strengthens the surreal vibe of Mister Lonely.

Very over the top, moments to cry and laugh, but also so sincere. Much more intimate and also feels much less experimental. Last Korine revision and my last step in the run-up to Spring Breakers is to see Trash Humpers for the first time. For some reason something has always held me back and it still does, but now I'm going to believe it. This remains by far the Korine that appeals to me the most so far. Although this is far from the limit for Korine. On to Trash Humpers.

Just like with Julien Donkey-Boy, it doesn't work for me that there is a forced search for absurd visual discoveries and idiotic characters in order to radiate 'look at me being cinematic'. While it is actually a very straightforward film, but without any real psychological layers or the possibility of identifying with characters. Pretentious choice of subject and aesthetic interest keep me at a distance from going along with the sensitive tone that it also manages to convey at times.

One of the most underrated films ever made. This is about a group of insecure people (a cult actually) who pretend to be unique special people like Michael Jackson or Marilyn Monroe because it makes them feel better and they don't know how to embrace their own unique self because of their insecurity [/quote]

The nuns facing their deaths and "Marilyn Monroe" committing suicide symbolize the downfall you will inevitably experience if you fail to appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of your own character.
Harmony Korine's films are usually extremely provocative, edgy and even dirty, but this is an unexpectedly beautiful film. Say what you want about Harmony Korine, but he remains fascinating.
