Well, this movie turned on once, it had been on my pc for a while. Didn't watch it before because I was afraid it was a women's movie..and it is indeed incredible!!

I really don't understand why this movie has such a high rating. The characters all remain characters, especially the chief Geisha bitch and then the old man with that pipe with an incredibly fake voice...blegh. I find that voice really creepy.

All too sweet and too superficial story for me. Nice for an evening with friends where you occasionally glance at TV. (then you can also follow the storyline fine)

As American as this Japanese rendition feels, it is nevertheless a pleasure to enjoy beautiful pictures that feel artistic to the sensory capacity of the human being. Some choices are too easy and almost a shame, but in general it is a pretty neat film that appears to be freely accessible to the wider public in this way.

Excellent drama and beautifully filmed. The plot is well put together, but otherwise not very special. The book has 461 pages, so all in all it's quite difficult to film. With 2.5 hours I think well done. Found it a bit hard to follow here and there. Especially in the beginning. Asians look alike no matter what they think of us. And the many Japanese names don't help you with that either. And then I see in the extras that some names mean different than I expected. The Japanese dictionary might be handy to have. By the way, they speak English. Funny thing is that the actors also came from China and America. Well, it didn't seem that bad. I did regret that the time was not clear everywhere. They started somewhere in the early 1930s and I think they end in the late 1940s. Some seasons in the picture would have been useful. But the film is really fantastic beautifully made, what else can I say. Too bad that Japan with all its culture has been so modernized, so you won't see much of it anymore except in Kyoto I believe and Nara. It is striking in this film that the film director mainly gained inspiration from the only foreign Geisha. An American one, so that was nice. Furthermore, I knew little about Geisha's speech from Geesja. At that time, a kimono consisted of 5 layers. Always thought she was some kind of rich prostitute, but that's a lot more nuanced. But I thought it was a wonderful film to see with the beautiful dance as the absolute highlight. Also, well played. Remarkably the young girl did not speak a word of English. So all interpreters have been working on that for a long time

Movie 4.0

Image 4.5 (Blu-ray)

Sound 4.5

Extras 4.5
