"He was a student. She was his teacher. Their love was forbidden."
Malmö, Sweden in 1942, during World War II. Stig is a 15-year-old high school student on the brink of adulthood. He is in love with his teacher, 37-year-old Viola. He falls for her beauty and maturity, and she falls for his innocent and youthful demeanor, something she does not find in her annoying husband who is drinking. They develop a passionate and forbidden relationship, while Stig also befriends Viola's husband. But the relationship between the two lovers has consequences that neither of them expected.
