Amanda Seyfried is as daring as it is convincing choice for the title role in this film adaptation of the harrowing story of Linda Susan Borman, who was persuaded by the opportunistic and brutal Chuck Traynor [Peter Sarsgaard] due to money problems to - under the pseudonym Linda Lovelace - become the to play the leading role in the most famous porn film of all time: Deep Throat (1972).

The choice of director Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman to use a Rashômon (1950)-like structure turns out wonderfully well. The first part of the film shows Linda's life story as the public has known it for a long time: Linda as the willing, cheerful actress who will do anything for fame and enjoy it to the fullest, with the help of Chuck, her mainstay. After a brief flash-forward in which Linda undergoes a lie detector test, the same story is revisited, but this time from Linda's own perspective. That story, based on Linda's groundbreaking autobiography 'Ordeal', offers a completely different view of events. "Lovelace" has thus become not only an effective and honest biography of a misunderstood icon, but also an exposé of the ruthless way in which the film industry wants to exploit stars at any cost. And despite the unpleasant theme, there is a hopeful, perhaps even inspiring, ending.

Great drama, in my opinion, with the current ratings slightly underrated in my opinion. Ever seen DT and renamed Deep Throat to Deep Triest, innovative and daring for the time, but not to be seen in this day and age. Now I had already heard of the double standards and accusations afterwards, and partly because of that I was still interested in what kind of film this was.

Excellent image, if somewhat stereotypical of how Linda made the wrong choices, especially because of the strict inflexible mother, either as an escape or as a silent protest. But, as is so often the case with such types, it turns out that the act of charmer is hiding something else. Very nice how first an image is sketched of how it seems to the outside world, how easy and natural everything happens. But in the second part a moving picture of intimidation, domestic violence and even gang rape. And most poignantly still the flight and ask for help from her mother who in turn says 'obedience to your husband'. Really unimaginable. As mentioned above, the second part and ending could have been a little longer. Seems a bit rushed.

Incidentally, from Mama Mia to Deep Throat, daring and, in my opinion, well portrayed, from musical tutje to a porn star. Amanda Seyfried, top performance and bold choice.

Reasonable.

I've never seen the classic porn movie that covers this movie, among other things. The interest in such things is therefore not too high, but this film was chosen within the group and I had few problems sitting out the film. I already knew it anyway and now I have actually seen it.

In principle, Lovelace very well follows the lines that these kinds of biography films follow, but it is still difficult to compare with other films of this caliber. Especially because the story told here is clearly heavier and more sensitive in light compared to other stories. It is therefore not a film that will make you very happy, rather a film that will leave you with a somewhat empty feeling.

While the film could have been a lot more daring at many points, implications in a lot of scenes are more than enough to inform the viewer of exactly what is happening. In terms of directing, it's just a little less exciting. Certainly could have been a bit fresher in the first half and the characters themselves are not portrayed as sympathetic enough. Nowhere did I really feel the pity for Seyfried that the film was hoping to get.

Nevertheless, it remains a bad story that, in my opinion, is told fairly honestly, but also somewhat flawed. I certainly get the feeling that there is more to tell than this, but we don't get to see or know that. In any case, I would have liked to have seen a little more about Sarsgaard's motives. So a decent movie. Not brilliant, but entertaining and captivating.
