Los Borgia plot
César Borgia is arrested for the murder of his brother Juan. We travel twelve years back in time and see the Spanish Borgia brothers - the ambitious César, the wild Juan and the timid Jofré - in Rome, where the family lives and where Father Rodrigo is ordained as the new Pope. Rodrigo, now Pope Alexander VI, immediately decides to marry off all his children to increase the power of the Borgias and the Vatican. His daughter Lucrecia has to marry Juan Sforza, son of a rival family. He makes eldest son Juan an army commander, much to the disappointment of his brother César, who has military ambitions but is made a cardinal by his father. Youngest son Jofré marries Sancha de Aragon. César does not accept the path his father has chosen for him, and the two eldest Borgia sons become diametrically opposed.
