Seven days' journey from all the political squabbles in London is Exmoor, where the inhabitants are as rugged as the landscape. Farmer Jack Ridd lives here with his wife, their son and two daughters. Their simple existence is overshadowed by the dreaded Doones, a noble family once evicted from their lands and now subsisting through robbery, theft and murder.
