Yes, this is one of the best movies of 2020 for me. Unexpectedly, yes, but this book-based film managed to move me emotionally. Kevin Costner is an actor I've never actually seen a really bad movie from. Most of them are even good to very good and that's why I wanted to check this one out after The Highwaymen and I'm not disappointed because this one turns out great. Diane Lane is also very good, although I don't think I know her immediately from other films. Then you realize, I still have a lot to discover.

Let Him Go is based on a book written by author Larry Watson. I've never heard of the author, but thanks for this book, otherwise the movie would never have happened. This movie has a very realistic story. A simple story too, but honestly I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it on screen before. Grandparents who fight to get their grandchild back because they feel they are being treated badly. The first hour I thought yes this is pretty standard but it gets better and better towards the end. It got pretty intense. Very good ending too.

Good film about a couple who, after the loss of their son, go in search of their grandson. A good story that makes for an entertaining film here. A pleasant pace and a nice setting (North Dakota, 1960s). Diane Lane and Kevin Costner are perfectly cast together and have a nice interaction. Some strong and exciting scenes (like the dinner party), but the ending is just a bit too easy and therefore just short of 4.0 stars.

I didn't think it was all that special. A typical American family drama, packaged as a pseudo-western in which violence plays a prominent role. In my view, the film has a serious credibility problem. A beautiful role from Diane Lane.
