La Mala Educación plot

In the early 1960s, two boys, Ignacio and Enrique, discover love, movies and fear at a Christian school. Father Manolo, the head of the school and teacher of literature, witnesses these discoveries, but also participates in them. The three characters face each other twice, in the late 1970s and 1980s. These encounters change the life and death of some of them.

Nice drama film, I just didn't want those homoerotic scenes. Or am I thinking too narrow-minded?

Still the least Almodovar so far. Strange that this comes between two top films of his: Hable con ella and Volver. Presumably the director wanted to make a more personal picture with this and forgot to make a good film out of it. The biggest problem is the script that runs like a headless chicken. The acting isn't bad, but the story isn't going anywhere. In addition, it is also difficult to create some atmosphere and the characters do not come into their own. Where in the beginning it seems to be about abuse in the Church, it turns out differently so that you cannot build sympathy for those boys despite such facts. I'll admit that if the erotic scenes with a woman (or two) were done, I would personally get caught. Human for sure. Although I have to admit that Almodovar was able to make something of the erotic scenes. He clearly has a feeling for it.

I didn't like this Almodovar anyway. Almodovar likes to kick things up a notch - and the subject of sexual abuse of underage boys during a boys' boarding school in the 1970s and 1980s was perfect for making a film about it and opening the eyes of conservative Spain. It has not become a melodramatic film, the film is too light-hearted for that. In his own style with transsexuals and transvestites.

Cinematically a good film, but I couldn't empathize with the characters enough. There is little depth and their motives remain too vague. I also couldn't empathize with the plot itself with those flashbacks. It bothered me only moderately. Good acting performances, that is, from Bernal, among others. The supporting sound was also OK, but the plot was mediocre. Just enough. The least Almodovar I saw to date.
