"How does it feel to win a race when you know you lost a love?"
Fifteen-year-old Sieger is a sporty, somewhat closed boy. When he gets to know the intriguing, unpredictable Marc during training with his athletics team, he slowly but surely falls in love with him. Love appears to come from both sides, but Sieger does not want to be gay and goes after the girls with his friend Stef. When he then gets along with Jessica, he commands respect from his older brother. Yet it becomes increasingly difficult for him to deny his feelings for Marc.

Incredibly cute. It is a real youth film, so here and there it has very ostentatiously avoided the raw edges, but the elaboration makes up for it: excellent camera work, beautiful locations, good acting, even by the children.
Compliments for how this theme is portrayed, because that is more difficult than it seems. You don't want to be rude, but you also don't want to get a bad taste in your mouth about how a film focuses on underage bodies (a la 'Apt Pupil', etc.). The director chooses exactly the right tone here, maybe the feminine touch or something.
I would almost go to 4* out of sympathy, but that's also my score for the somewhat comparable 'North Sea, Texas', and it's a level better than this one. Some downsides to this one: the ending feels rushed and the soundtrack is mediocre. Who is that dude who plays the melancholic electric guitar in the background of every Dutch film. Does he ever get a break?
Furthermore, a pleasant hour and a half swooning over puppy love. I also think, as someone mentioned above, a good film to discuss this theme in schools, etc. (With some difficulty the film can still be found on the site of the Dutch public broadcaster).

What a sweet, tender and sensitive coming-of-age film about a fledgling love between two teenage boys. Beautiful cinematography with Dutch forests, dunes and beach. Truly sublime camera work delivers a beautiful tree trunk scene and beautiful trampoline scene! Filming from above is really great and filming from below through the trampoline cloth is also very special! Also nice that the surroundings get blurry now and then, this emphasizes the feeling of confusion in Sieger..... Music is beautiful and appropriate. The game is very believable and realistic, it never feels unreal. The struggle and development of one's own sexual identity is clearly visible and tangible. Perhaps the film was a bit tame, but I think appropriate here as it reinforces the innocence of their budding love.....

The wooden acting was really annoying here. Fortunately, the excellent directing still makes up for it.
