He Who Gets Slapped plot
Scientist Paul Beaumont is cheated by his so-called benefactor. Embittered, he decides to become a circus clown. He becomes popular with an act in which he is constantly humiliated and beaten by other clowns. He falls in love, but then the people who cheated on him earlier in his life cross his path again.
