Hard Candy, didn't like it at all. Calling this a "bad movie" would be an understatement.

The idea behind the film is still nice (although nothing new, because in the end it is nothing more or less than a revenge story) and fits in well with current events. However, in the execution it really goes wrong on every level. If I have to sum it up in one word; "invented". This movie has no soul at all.

Ultimately, the tension or drama is just scripted. There doesn't seem to be any chemistry anywhere between the two main characters, this ultimately doesn't lead to the bone-chilling psychological battle that I, as a viewer, want to see. No, it's just boring to watch.

In addition, the implausibility and coincidences pile up sky high during the film... with the unbelievable low point being the end

The looks of the film are also hip; the lighting, the out-of-focus, not showing all kinds of essential things, the semi-artistic framing. I find it all so… calculating almost.

Oh yes and keep that camera still during action scenes, realize that 9 times out of 10 that is totally ineffective but just annoying!

Total failure; 0.5*

Very nicely designed film with a sharp edge. It carries a strange kind of tension and a sense of uneasiness. The film raises questions, but still lacks things for me. The story continued to ripple, but could have been taken a little more to the extreme here and there. Many things were repeated and more could happen between the two. The relationship between the girl and the man could have been worked out better. Otherwise a good and original movie.

Stays strong.

Such a film that I wondered beforehand if it would still be that strong, but apparently that was not necessary for anything. Slade's career went downhill fairly quickly after the release of this one, but Hard Candy was really good at it. And just because he seems to be holding back a bit, the film has also remained relatively fresh.

In the past mainly known for his music videos, which can also be seen in Hard Candy (if you know what to watch), but don't expect a flashy film. Slade mainly looks for the details and therefore keeps a film with two characters and one primary location interesting.

The story remains fun, the protagonists do a good job, audiovisually very neat (still LFO - Freak as the highlight) and with a great ending. The first time I talked about a possible increase, that is not possible, but there is too much quality here.

4.0* and a extended review
