Giuseppe di Nazareth plot
The people of Jerusalem suffer under the rule of Herod, and hope for a speedy arrival of the messiah, who will deliver them from the Roman occupiers. Judas, Joseph's nephew, joins a freedom movement, but Joseph, himself a 35-year-old widower, has no intention of resisting. In his eyes, resistance against the Romans is futile. And Judas's death soon after confirms his view. After this event, all the other men from their village have to hide. Shortly afterwards, Joseph is asked by two visitors, Anna and Joachim, to marry their 14-year-old daughter Mary. Joseph accepts their offer, but promises to keep her virginity. The confusion is all the greater when one day Mary confesses that she is pregnant. And that her future son is the Messiah that the Jewish people have been waiting for so long.
