El Fotógrafo de Mauthausen plot

"Based on an incredible real story"

Francesc Boix is a Catalan photographer and communist militant who fought in the Spanish Civil War. During the Second World War he was arrested and imprisoned in the Mauthausen concentration camp. There he has to work in the photo lab. What the Nazis do not know, however, is that Boix has set himself the goal of photographing as many of the horrific events in the camp as possible.

Interesting to see a concentration camp from the point of view of Spaniards and also the whole fact that photographic material was smuggled out of the camp is interesting. Furthermore, this film has a number of scenes that are quite strong, especially the scene in which we alternate between a dance performance and a kapo pushing a Spaniard into the abyss, after which we see that he wants to kick the Spaniard's head in there just switched to a shot of a foot stamping during the dance performance.

What bothers the film is that the plot is not always clear. It already starts with an introduction of the protagonist, where I initially got the impression that the boy was the narrator. That falls into place quickly, but still. Some characters are barely introduced, I recognize them by face, but which name goes with it? This detracts from the experience, so I end up at 2.5 *.

Setback.

The lack of a well-told story is the biggest shortcoming of this film. Of course there are plenty of shocking things that you will be presented with as a viewer, but the development of the plot apparently had some difficulties.

I also noticed that there was never a large group of prisoners in the picture, very contradictory to the facts.

The number of prisoners in Mauthausen was very large and that was not reflected at all in this film.

Furthermore, the acting is okay and it is certainly not wrong to put on this film. I didn't know the story either, but if the highlight for me is the photos with the credits, then something went wrong somewhere.

Small insufficient.

I also had the idea that it was all filmed on a very small scale with a few dozen extras who then

prisoner base of probably in the thousands.

This does not do the film any good and does not do justice to the many victims of this camp .

The fact that the horrors are depicted truthfully is more of a kind of plaster on the wound .

I also noticed the SS song that I once heard in a German documentary.
