"The movie about Andre Hazes"
André Hazes is eight years old when Johnny Kraaijkamp discovers him on the Albert Cuyp market: a star is born. The film deals with three crucial phases in Hazes' life: his youth in the 60s, the 80s and his breakthrough and the last year of his life.

A simple soul who likes a beer becomes a great folk singer and ends up in a world of managers, deadlines and luxury, which actually does not suit him at all. An interesting element when you talk about the life of Hazes, but the film Blood, Sweat & Tears doesn't seem to want to focus too much on that. His health problems, especially his drinking problem, seem to be the main subject of the film. Sometimes it seems like you're watching an hour and a half anti-alcohol commercial. With its three chapters (child, his successful years and his last year) it seems that one wants to tell the life story of Hazes, while important moments are in a fleeting montage or are completely skipped. His hearing problems and beer addiction are apparently more interesting. Blood, Sweat & Tears is a well-maintained film with fortunately also a few strong actors in supporting roles, especially Van Huêt is strong.

Film is interesting even if, like me, you are not a fan. It is a downright sad story that, despite its success, remains sad to the very end.
Martijn Fisscher is very credible as André, in contrast to Hadewich Minis as Rachèl. Martijn Fisscher is Hazes while Minis 'plays' Rachel. She's too 'clean' and you really don't have to be a Rotterdammer to hear that the Rotterdam accent isn't quite right.
It is just as cringe-inducing as Amsterdammers acting with a Limburg accent. Not really to listen to.
Anyway, if you can get over that annoyance, it's a beautiful film about the country's greatest folk hero.
