Gaucho Gaucho plot
Kershaw and Dweck traveled to Argentina for this documentary, where they found people who live far off the grid, wear clothing that resembles cowboys and live off the land. Their view of this world is largely observational – no on-screen statistics, talking heads, etc. – but stories and themes begin to emerge organically during the filmmaking process. We see a young woman who is told to wear a uniform at school instead of the clothing of her culture. We also regularly return to an 83-year-old gentleman named Lelo who could be a standout in any western about a hero…

The makers of The Truffle Hunters point their cameras at five families living in the Argentinean Calchaquí Valleys, where they live according to the ancient codes and traditions of the Gauchos. Captured with carefully chosen camera positions in beautiful black and white and provided with a beautiful soundtrack (thanks to Skywalker Sound), but due to the lack of storyline, the whole thing is somewhat disjointed. Moreover, a number of scenes are a bit too emphatically staged.
