Beyond Ipanema plot
"Brazilian Waves in Global Music."
Documentary about Brazilian music. Samba, bossa nova, tropicália, electrobossa, favela funk: there is no end to the amount of styles that are categorized in the broad term 'Brazilian music'. In this film, the makers investigate the renewed (American) interest in the Brazilian styles that conquered the American stages in the 1960s through the 'invasion of the bossa nova'. In doing so, they encounter special issues, such as the sale of the most expensive Brazilian (vinyl) record ever. Musicians, music producers and DJs analyze the developments and adaptations of the different styles over the years. Of course compositions by the royalty of Brazilian music, such as Carlos Antonio Jobim, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Os Mutantes, can be heard, but the young generation is also heard.
