20 Days in Mariupol plot

The unimaginably cruel and bloody images of the countless deaths and injuries caused by bombings and shelling in the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, besieged by the Russians, spread around the world in March 2022 - partly thanks to the work of the Ukrainian AP journalist Mstyslav Chernov. With great effort he managed to send shocking and now iconic images, such as the pregnant woman being carried on a stretcher from a bombed maternity hospital, from the city that was deprived of internet and electricity.

2 votes that mean an average rating of 3.50 so far; scandalous!

Very intense documentary. Uncensored images. The horrors in Mariupol show what madness Putin has brought to Ukraine...

This documentary has evoked strong emotions in me. Can't do anything else.

The start of the “special military operation” in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, was a time for journalists in the strategically important city of Mariupol to pack their bags. Mstyslav Chernov was part of a Ukrainian team of journalists on behalf of the General Press Agency who stayed behind and were responsible for almost all the images of the trail of destruction, death and destruction left by the Russians. This compilation is full of images that traveled around the world and tells the story of both the residents and journalists who risked their lives to present their visual report to the outside world. A powerful document of great historical significance, despite Chernov's wooden English commentary.

Impressive indeed, but also somewhat disturbing.

A documentary made by the Associated Press (AP) news agency is quite remarkable in itself.

Their people have been there all this time to capture these images. Of course we have seen a lot on the news, but being so close to the people is quite different.

I sometimes think they go too far with the closeness. Images of young parents saying goodbye to their small child on the operating table and so on give me too voyeuristic a feeling. That could all have been a little less.

Also disturbing are the really stupid questions that the cameraman keeps asking. For example, someone who is throwing body bags into a mass grave is what goes through his mind. Come on.

In that respect, that one man who walks across the street with all his stuff because his house has been demolished says exactly what the viewer is thinking.

The interviewer asks how is it possible that your house collapsed. 'Yes, what do you think?'
