More style than substance, director Norman Jewison agrees in the audio commentary, but the style is very beautiful. The plot is okay and Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway are a joy to watch, but it is mainly the inventive camera work, supported by a very prominent score, that makes this light-hearted crime film memorable. The film contains some still very cool camera shots and the teasing romantic atmosphere is also well hit. The 1999 remake with Pierce Brosnan is also worth checking out, but it is more traditional and mostly conventional.

Nice. Although that is largely thanks to McQueen, who is again very good for the day. Dunaway I found less convincing. Okay, all in all a very entertaining and stylish film, but I think I liked the remake with Brosnan (also quite a cool guy of course) just a bit more. Highlights are the opening (the robbery) and the rides on the beach, where especially the scene between the birds is very nicely shot.

Wonderful 60's movie. Nice to see 37 year old cool McQueen, who would have turned 80 this year if he hadn't died of asbestos lungs. Obviously McQueen and Dunaway must have had something during the film shoot. Especially during the game of chess. What a chemistry. Story wise, the 1999 version with Brosnan is better. The Ferrari that Dunaway had in the movie is now one of the most expensive on auctions. The Manx dune buggy had a Chevy engine instead of the usual VW Beetle engine.
