I thought it was a fun, exciting thriller. The story is thin, but I was not bored. Great thriller.

“Are you not Lisbeth Salander, the righter or wrongs? The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? The girl who hurts men who hurts women? All those lucky ladies.”

Decent book adaptation. Claire Foy is excellent as Lisbeth Salander, and the cinematography is also brilliant. In terms of script and direction, The Girl in the Spider's Web does have problems, and the film feels rushed and cluttered. I've devoured the first three books, and some things don't seem right to the original trilogy either. Especially around Lisbeth's father it is sometimes contradictory with the trilogy, and the small role of Mikael Blomkvist is also disappointing.

Lisbeth's sexuality (quite important in the books) is also very briefly touched upon, and also portrayed very dull and prudish. Sylvia Hoeks does put down a cool and strong Camilla Salander. And Lisbeth Salander remains a fascinating and very strong character, and I would like Claire Foy to take on the role of the Swedish super hacker one more time. With a slightly better script please.

You get beautiful setting and lighting if you don't shoot a story in sun-drenched California. Actors have to suffer, like wearing a thin leather jacket on a motorcycle in the freezing cold. Gone is the mystery of the first film with Rooney Mara. Now your average spy thriller. Yeah right, nuclear missiles are easy to launch. Not so. Hoeks is good, but must be careful that she is not typecast; this looked like a copy of the part she was supposed to play in Blade Runner 2049. Skinny 2.5*.

As a lover of the Millennium series and books by Stieg Larsson, nevertheless seized the opportunity regarding this film, and with the quality of the aforementioned in mind, have come to the conclusion that you can best miss this one.

As said, with the original and the remake with Craig and Mara in mind, still seized the opportunity and especially curious how Sallander and Blomqvist are portrayed here, with a story that already has more James Bond-esque espionage than the excellent plot lines of Larsson. But that's not something that has to hurt in itself, were it not for the fact that after half an hour the product slowly collapses. One Balder as client, why is not completely clear to me, who also disappears very quickly from the picture. A Blomqvist relegated to a supporting role. Some interference from the NSA who just happens to be a hacker boyfriend. Bad guys in the case of The Spiders that I don't find scary anywhere except for the scene of the man being interrogated by Blomqvist and showing his scar. Sylvia Hoeks does not add much either. And then that Firefall itself, who comes up with such a thing?

Claire Foy tries to make the most of it and along with the crash of the car in the woods, the technology of the sniper rifle is very nice to see. Just like the escape by motorbike over the ice. They are few bright spots in a film that has little or nothing to do with its name and also shows nothing new. Sallander on the run, problems with the family, matters related to the security service, various narrow escapes from this tough lady and admittedly no coitus, but the presence of a lesbian lover. It has all been done before and many times better.

Seeing The Girl In The Spidersweb is not a lost evening, but looking for the quality of Millennium can safely be skipped.

So, uhh, Libby's kind of super intelligent. Swims like a fish out of water in and through the cyber world, plays chess from childhood, but can't even see she's checkmate? What is this? Humor or just an insult to the viewer's intellect? And so the entire film can be summed up by a bin full of unbelievable situations. The original was a few steps better, but also not to shout from the rooftops. So quickly forgotten.

When I started watching this movie I was very confused with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Not surprising, of course, since both films belong to a 'franchise'. But enough talk about other movies. Looking specifically at this movie, he certainly wasn't bad. The atmosphere was nice and raw, but could have been a bit more grim. Unfortunately, the 16+ rating was not really addressed well. The shooting scenes were well rendered. The plot was also well told. All in all, there was plenty of action and the movie looked good.

3.5/5
