Nice smooth movie.

One-liners, interesting dialogues, sudden intermezzo-like scenes that leave a dreamy impression. And moments of tension and heartbeat, although I read above that the gambling scenes are indifferent, but that just typifies the character of Bennet, who is indeed not your average gambler at all .. but above all self-destructive.

An extra half point for the soundtrack with Dylan, Pulp, Roderiquez and Ray Lamontagne. These tracks are brilliantly put together and for the text lovers they fit exactly with every scene.

Nope.

I think Wahlberg got a lot of love for this role, although I have to say that Wahlberg can do this with two fingers up his nose. He is now really cut out for these kinds of roles and fits in well. But to be fair, he is in good shape.

However, it is a pity that he cannot save the film with his sharp character. However, the film has a good, exciting and intriguing first 10 minutes but then suddenly falls back into some weak bullshit in a school and some other uninteresting "I'm in debt" moments.

The fast tempo in the first 10 minutes makes the relatively slow tempo in the middle part of the film a killer to get through. The dialogues lack all sharpness. The assembly is easy. And the tempo is really too slow to be able to put it down any more sharply.

Also about Larson's first role where she is almost invisible and replaceable. I usually think she's a strong actress, but she can't do anything with this. Short roles like Goodman's are too much in the background to impress even one bit. But once in the last half hour the film is very interesting again. So it was not a very tiring task.

Towards the end the tempo picks up a bit, but that takes too long. It's only when the events finally get a bit more interesting that the film is a bit better, but it lacks the sharpness that a film like this needs. A fresh PTA could have brought such a film like this in 1999 to a wonderful result. But this lacks all freshness, sharpness and tightness.
