Svartur á Leik plot
Reykjavik, April 1999. A man is being questioned by the police. He was arrested the night before after a fight. Stebbi can't remember anything about it. He was dead drunk again. While smoking a cigarette in front of the police station, Stebbi meets his childhood friend Tóti, a one-piece guy with a huge tattoo on his bald head, earrings, a goatee and formidable eyes. 'If you have any problems, just call me,' Tóti says and hands Stebbi his business card. 'I'm doing you a favor; in return you must do me a favor.'

Not a special, but realistic story.
Tension build-up was mediocre,
and the film rippled somewhat to a predictable ending.

Successful work from Iceland in which a young man will enlist the help of an old friend due to an outstanding charge and thus be introduced to an illegal gang. It goes as you would expect with a rise and fall posture in the middle and I didn't sweat during all the difficulties he got into. Revenge, deceit, power, lust, it all comes back and they managed to bring it convincingly, but I'm not really overwhelmed. The playing time seemed to be about twenty minutes longer than the actual length.

Nice crime film from Iceland in which the raw world of drugs and money is accompanied by a lot of parties, sex, betrayal, brutal violence, but where the director also pays attention to a funny moment here and there. Think about that bank robbery. Still, the final could have been a little more raw. A bit simplistic. 7/10
