"What are 'friends' for...? Why, for murder, terror, extortion, violence and other profitable enterprises!"
Salvatore Colasbena, a contractor, was murdered in a small Sicilian town in 1961 for not complying with the will of the mafia. Inspector Bellodi investigates the case, starting with Colasbena's wife Rosa. His findings lead him to mob boss Don Mariano Arena, but higher powers with interests frustrate the investigation.
