"The hunter and the hunted, the ultimate chase begins."
Jung-ho, an ex-detective but now a pimp, is annoyed that some of his girls have stopped responding while they still owe him a debt. One evening he gets a call from a customer and sends Min-jin. Jung-ho later realizes that the phone number is the same as the customer he last sent his missing girls to. He therefore decides to look for Min-jin.

An at times heavy and brutal crime/thriller in which a pimp sees a connection between a customer's phone number and the disappearance of his girls. The beginning of a search for Min-Jin which starts quite slowly. The film has a rather dark atmosphere but does not build up the tension too strongly. There are of course the necessary tense moments, but it is actually now and then worked out somewhat lightly with the moments of the police. There are also a few things that are not logical and a bit unbelievable and the film has a slightly too long playing time with the largest part of the last 20 minutes being a bit too long. I feel like there was more to this film. I had hoped for a very exciting cat and mouse game, so in the end I was a bit disappointed with this The Chaser.

"The Chaser", original title "Chugyeogja", is a riveting yet disturbing South Korean crime thriller and directorial debut for Hong-jin Na.
The film revolves around 'Joon-ho', an ex-detective who becomes a pimp and begins his own investigation after his roster of prostitutes begins to mysteriously disappear. It soon becomes clear to us, but not immediately to Joon, that his girls have become unfortunate victims of a psychopathic serial killer. After the tension winds up to almost unbearable levels, only to have you breathing again before he puts you through the meat grinder again. That's the level of horror inflicted on certain characters in the film that causes slightly too "delicate" viewers to characterize him as "horribly violent."
In the central role of 'Joon-ha', Yun-seok Kim is outstanding. The first introduction portrays him as a conflicted but ultimately unsympathetic man, but as events unfold and his search for the missing girls becomes increasingly hectic and personal, it's hard not to feel warmth as responsibility and shame begin to catch up with him. .
We enjoyed the film from start to finish, the story does not let go and immediately grabs you well.
Acting performances are excellent and the set is also fine, the South Korean film has risen a bit in our eyes!
