Not a bad film that for once was not about war but about the everyday life of young people in Moscow in the 1960s. We could see that the war had nevertheless left its mark in the scene where the grandmother pointed to a photo of her six children and listed the names of the three children who had died in the war. We also saw many Trabans, Ladas and even more of those cars that were characteristic of the communist Eastern Bloc. The image of Moscow that we generally saw was quite positive. In any case, a lot more positive than what the West presented us with during the Cold War.

3.5*

This film received three votes in the Film Pegasus MM list of 2013, good for a 970th place at the time. Now there is no trace of this film left in the top lists. I didn't think the film was that special in terms of content. Three young people stroll through the streets of Moscow. One is a writer visiting Moscow. Another is getting married, but that doesn't go too well and the other is almost the jovial host.

I was more impressed by Moscow itself. We are talking somewhere in the early 1960s. The space race was in full swing. Gagarin must have been the first to embark on his trip to the universe not so long ago. Moscow looks quite 'Western', as far as that can be defined. A Japanese tourist actually! There is not much to be seen of the Cold War or communism. On the contrary, Moscow is vibrant, culturally and economically. A "comrade" here and there, but that's it.

The most beautiful scene is surely the one in the pouring rain with the bicycle and the umbrella, but as a whole it is just a little too little to really be a highlight.

Nice film about a bunch of young people in Moscow during the Russian thaw. Clear homoerotic undertones are present between Kolka and Volodya. The shower scene, the public declaration of love, the romp just before the wedding and the staring when the pants have to be taken off to be repaired after the biting incident. Kicking a ball out of the dog's mouth did not make the two protagonists any more sympathetic. And then blame the babysitter and squeal about rabies. Yeah bye. Then there is the flirt between Sasha and Alyona, with a beautiful scene in the spring rain indeed. The first meeting in the record store where Alyona worked gave a nice picture of the times. The impatient older lady who wanted Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto must not have been chosen by chance.
