Simple but effective. The lack of empathy and communication between the characters is taken very far, making the whole a bit farcical. Nice use of music, the image at the end of Iris smoking in the chair was also nice. Nice to see Kati Outinen in this young role anyway. Great film, nice and short, but very simple and in my opinion certainly not one of the best of Kaurismaki.

A very slow movie. Did I mind? No, most certainly not. That gave me plenty of time to look at the sad surroundings in which the equally sad actress Kati Outinen moved. I thought that with her role she portrayed a super pathetic girl for whom, despite the apparent detachment, I could muster a lot of empathy. Aki Kaurismäki has once again delivered very good work.

Dry and slow. One-minute still camera shots of an event such as reading and taking a sip are no exception. I then try to pay close attention to small details, but in most cases it made little difference. The story keeps it simple, no deeper layers, just from A to B. Text is almost absent (how much you can do visually), it sometimes feels like a mime game. So quite a few ingredients to make it boring.
The power lies in the dry humor that this entails. In the beginning you doubt whether you are watching a parody, but it is of course also a film from a different era. And this really is the image of Finland and its ice rabbits, or at least the hand of the director. For example, the moron of as a wallflower getting pregnant immediately after your first sex can seem a bit annoyingly straightforward, but if you put it in the perspective of absurdism, it fits better. A handful of scenes give a nice dose of subtle black humor, but it doesn't get more than a smile. The scene where she gives the hitman a shot of poison with a sweet smile is the highlight, we should have had more of that.
And yet a plot hole for the not unimportant rat poison; I think that stuff is certainly not tasteless and would be noticed, and it doesn't work like that a la minute.
Nice, with potential, but still a bit too distant and slow to be really interesting.
