Still a reasonable film that breaks down a bit at times when no scenes with Peter Sellers are used. Talking the scenes together is still pretty well done, although figures like that criminal are just dragged in without an intro.

Don't mind the tribute at all. Of course the setup is remarkable, I also wonder if something like this has been done before. Outtakes from the previous films form a kind of story for half a movie, the other half consists of used material and the whole is strung together by new material from the supporting actors who are still alive. It's pretty bizarre.

The outtakes aren't entirely distasteful, but they've been cut out for a reason, of course; Those sketches aren't that fun. The fragments that have already been used are nice, but we've already seen them. Still, as an ode it's not all that bad and with a little goodwill you can go a bit further. The new scenes (ie everything without Sellers) are a bit mediocre, but there are also some nice scenes, of which the one with Clouseau's father, with that servant accompanied by sheepdog, is the only one that is really worth mentioning. All in all, not the disaster I feared. 2.5 stars.

You automatically wonder if this film was finished as a tribute or at least to recoup the investments. The film starts with a few fun sketches, but suddenly turns into a stranger in memoriam. After a while I had had enough and turned it off. If I want to see clips from the previous films, I'll put them on. It's still great to see Dreyfus being interviewed about Clouseau and having to hold back his laugh, while the viewer thinks he can barely hold back his tears. Still, I think the few nice scenes come into their own better as extras on a DVD than as a feature film. That was a bit tricky in 1982 of course, but it would have made the DVD box I have a lot more logical now if the fifth disc had been used for the third PP film.
