Caroline Van Dyke and Greg Grannard's marriage falls apart after ten years. Young woman Allison Adair becomes Greg's second wife. The writer Julian Tierney, Caroline's friend, has loved her for a long time and now sees his chance, but she rejects him and goes to Paris to file the divorce. Julian follows her, but when she learns of Greg's financial troubles, Caroline returns to help him. Greg tells Caroline that Allison is pregnant. Caroline realizes she loves Julian and now plans to travel with him to China to marry him. Then Allison and Greg get into a serious car accident, in which Allison dies and Greg is injured. Caroline tells Julian that she will stay with Greg until he is healed.
