Bit of a problematic concept to fill an entire movie with, and The Invention of Lying falls flat on the ass after a nice premise.

After all, the funny premise has to be mixed with sentimental posturing, something that also severely affected Be Kind Rewind (in the genre: nice basic idea, bad execution, let's say). Of course it would have been much nicer if Gervais, who again uses his typical mannerisms, had exploited the situation in an evil way. Now it's a bit limp.

Instead, we are presented with a sort of religion (criticism) that never gets off the ground, after which the film can no longer be saved.

A pity, but unfortunately. 1.5*.

Just for the fact that it makes fun of religion, does this film deserve my enthusiasm?

The irritating questions of the "believing" masses also very well reflect humanity's pettiness.

A movie doesn't have to be overly dramatic to tell embarrassing truths.

It was a nice end to my Saturday night.

Ricky Gervais is really funny. And he also has his own and recognizable style. Though it is always the same. This film also made me think of The Office quite often. This is a movie about the invention of lying. An original fact to have a world where no one lies and where everyone says what they think. I also thought it was something to do. Makes it all less complicated if you know exactly where you stand. And there were also nice and original finds in the script. The film remains light-hearted and builds up to a familiar and predictable cliché ending, but that wasn't a problem for me this time. Just a fun movie that looks good with an original script and a funny and recognizable Ricky Gervais.
