This film deserves a lot more attention than it has received to date. Wonderfully true to life story with a woman who is very interesting and colorful to follow. Nice dry humor (sometimes almost a bit Woody Allen) but at the same time catchy and partly recognizable drama elements.

Radha Blank plays her herself, I don't know how much there is truth, but it certainly leaves a strong impression on me.

Dare to dream, a beautiful message that is unfortunately often hard to find for me.

Wonderful movie!

4*

The life of a 40-year-old woman in Harlem. She struggles with a combination of growing older, prejudices about black Americans, the showbiz life that can disappear after 1 success, the death of her mother, ... A point in which she has to make difficult choices and has lost herself somewhat. . A kind of mockumentary perhaps with Radha Blank who took on both direction and leading role, and it is anyone's guess how far she plays herself.

It doesn't matter to me whether this is the real Radha, the film character Radha is certainly fascinating enough. Cinematographically, the whole thing is somewhat reduced to black and white, but it is not bad in itself. It also helps to focus even more on the main character. Especially an interesting script, the film itself sometimes finds its way. But the story and themes are worth it.

Radha Blank wrote, directed and starred in this somewhat meandering, but nevertheless often entertaining semi-autobiographical comedy drama about drama teacher Radha, a forty-year-old black woman from Harlem who struggles with her identity and her ambitions. Radha has not been able to realize her dream of becoming a successful playwright and she feels that she has not only failed herself, but also her deceased mother. Moreover, Radha has little confidence in the play she is preparing with a group of young people and hopes to find renewed inspiration to experiment with hip-hop. Radha is an endearing, authentic personality and convincingly wins the viewer's sympathy. An excellent character study, but partly because the supporting roles barely shine, it never becomes more than that.
