Farcical film in a lighthouse, shot in one room except for a few scenes. Slapstick-like situations, old cartoon music underneath, comical facial expressions à la Piet Bambergen... Women who keep screaming deafeningly, for example when the light suddenly goes out.
You wonder what all those people are doing there, in the middle of the sea.
Yet there is a memorable transformation in this less than an hour long film, which is why I set up the film. A character who changes from an old woman to a demonic witch in a split second , including high witch laughter.
Very well done. Mind you: 1937!
Remarkably enough, they do this with a color filter that they slide in front of the lens. I understood from another video.
When visual effects were still a bit like magic.
Apparently a cult film now. But without that transformation, I don't think it would have mattered.
Can be seen on YouTube.
