On the advice of Kuck-x, I decided to try a Miss Marple film, and where better to start than with the very first one?

And I have to honestly say that I found this more entertaining than I expected! The Miss Marple character is developed in a fun and humorous way and the tone of the film also remains nice and light.
Towards the end I thought the film became a bit messy, the murder itself became less and less interesting for me personally, unfortunately.

In any case, I can certainly give this 3 stars.

Nice film in which an older woman witnesses a murder on a passing train. A typical murder mystery from the pen of Agatha Christie in which everyone is a potential perpetrator. Although the film is not too long, it is a bit wordy. Miss Marple is an entertaining character and Margaret Rutherford knows how to interpret this well.

Murder She Said tells a thrilling murder story starring the iconic character of Miss Marple. The film is a quiet film that follows a typical subdued British narrative style with understated humor. In a rippling cadence we follow Miss Marple as she uses her ingenuity and eccentricity to solve a murder. Murder She said is an amusing film.

There is sympathy for the remarkable creature called Miss Marple. The viewer experiences the murder investigation from her perspective and puzzles out the solution to the murder. The suspects arouse antipathy in fairly equal amounts, so that the tendency to identify someone in advance as the murderer is not present. The suspicious characters (like Miss Marple) do not have much depth and are rather stereotyped as conniving, mean, surly or simply bad. The film does not do psychological character studies but keeps it simple.

As said. A film with many murder candidates. Lots of choice and therefore lots of innuendo. And that increases the entertainment value. Great short playing time too. The film is therefore forced not to take too many side paths and to keep the story compact and basic. And that works. Murder She Said is a nice way to fill up a lost hour and a half.
