I am of the generation that grew up with a wide choice of movies about talking and/or intelligent animals, such as the Dr. Dolittle, Babe and Beethoven movies.
Partly because of this, this film was hardly surprising. A rather predictable plot and a lot of jokes that made me laugh (although I really liked Chupadogbra) didn't make the viewing any better.
They had the money that they gave to the whole bunch of famous people who spoke to the dogs better spend on the special fx, because they look very computer animated at times.
Maybe nice as light food for the kids, but I think it's pretty mediocre.

This comedy about talking animals and the vicissitudes surrounding the people they live with has nothing new to offer. Marmaduke is especially indebted to Beethoven (1992) and is therefore mainly aimed at children, given the many unsurprising slapstick moments. But Marmaduke is a funny appearance and although Owen Wilson is not the most logical choice as the voice of the shy Great Dane, he still gives away a great voice rendition. For adults, there may be some extra fun to be had from a guess-the-vote game. Not boring, but certainly not original either.
