Les Ripoux plot

René Boisrond, a middle-aged Parisian police inspector, leads a quiet life. He lives with his girlfriend Simone, an ex-prostitute. He has a long track record as an inspector, but he is no longer very strict with the rules. He has a habit of settling everything amicably with the tough guys and taking as much bribes and commission as possible. That way, he can live well and pay for his gambling on the horse races. That easy life threatens to be disrupted when he is assigned François as a new partner. François comes straight from the police school and is committed to integrity and high moral principles. René has to get to grips with that virtuous young man from the province, with whom he has absolutely nothing in common, but with whom he must form a team. Together with Simone, he is determined to win over the newcomer to his methods.

And kappeuter passes the film back to me. This way the ball rolls nicely. 'Les Ripoux'. Really nothing to note. What a nice, light-hearted ''nothing's going on'' comedy from French soil. Atmospheric, lots of funny scenes and fun characters (especially René himself, who has a business on every street corner ). I expected quite a nice film, but in the end this completely exceeded my expectations. Enjoyed until the unpredictable end.

I agree. Very nice, but above all light-hearted buddy cop film made in France. No slapstick content like eg Gaston and Leo in Patrick Le Bon's Panic Sowers (1986), but a film of a higher level and more thoughtful humour. Fine duo in which the experienced René is very pleasant to follow with his à l'aise content as if it were the most normal thing in the world that cops turn a blind eye here and there or cheat with them. François as a rookie stood there (perplexed) and looked at it.

The duo is well attuned to each other and their dialogues are fine, witty and humorous. Extremely atmospheric with the small Parisian streets in the 80s. Some standard and predictable events here and there, but it was certainly entertaining.

Funny! And in a good way... Ripoux is a phonetic inversion of Pourri, which means "rotten" and "corrupt". René is an experienced cop and lives off the perks of the street. [They all know me he says, I've stopped them all at least once.
He gets a rookie as a colleague but is determined to teach him dirty ways ... Great to make a buddy movie where both characters are opposites but still get along. It gets completely laughable when René fully praises his younger colleague financially to show him the joys of the profession.

Philippe Noiret is less known from comedies, but steals the show from Thierry Lhermitte and makes corruption a virtue. Top comedy! Good laugh.
