Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams linked to submission. Triptych of stories that are interrelated. RMF (uncensored link to Johnny Guitar Watson?) Part 1 Dafoe as a businessman who has a special form of escapism linked to narcissistic traits. His victims are programmed. Plemons needs recognition which is expressed in total sacrifice to a father figure. Stone walks into his life at the right time, coincidence? Part 2 Plemons, police officer with missing wife, Stone, falls into a mental break down according to those around him, but is that true? How much did the will to survive in terms of food play a role during her disappearance given her ultimate sacrifice out of love? And what happens in Plemons' psyche regarding the truth, is what he sees and experiences also true? Dafoe is Stone's father with problems in the father-daughter relationship. Part 3 Stone searches with Plemons for a person with the gift of Christ. Stone sacrificed her life to join a cult/group led by father figure Dafoe and mother figure Hong Chau and remarried Plemons. Various events lead to the discovery of her life, but her own despair turns against her. The film Saló came to mind while watching this film. The different forms of sex emphasize the submission of wanting to belong to someone or something. Ultimately, in my opinion, it is about being seen in all the elements that life has in it and actually doing so entirely of your own free will without conforming to any form of oppression. Loving yourself unconditionally is the key, and 1 person has that in this film, but through Stone's desperation.......

Terrible triptych is Dadaism at its worst. The first story concerns an emotionally vulnerable man [Jesse Plemons] who is so afraid of losing his lover (or is he a manipulator?) [Willem Dafoe] that he accedes to his request to commit murder. In the second story, a man [Jesse Plemons] suspects that his wife [Emma Stone], who is found on an island after being missing for a long time, is someone else. And in the third story, a woman [Emma Stone] tries to prove her worth to two cult leaders [Willem Dafoe, Hong Chau] with the help of a man [Jesse Plemons]. Each story has the same supporting cast. Basically, these are stories that fit perfectly into the format of Alfred Hitchcock Presents/The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. Hitchcock had undoubtedly overseen a fine mix of suspense, mystery and sardonic humor. Unfortunately, Lanthimos completely exchanges amusement for absurdity. It really doesn't make any sense at all, the attempts at humor are completely dead and there is an extremely irritating score that has to make you believe that it is all very meaningful. We won't fall for that, Mr. Van Stoffelen!

We will be spoiled with a new Lanthimos in a short time. And maybe there is a reason, because with Poor Thing he attracted all the attention. A visual gem with a great Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe. They are back in Kinds of Kindness, although that film is slightly heavier than its predecessor. The cast on duty plays various roles in 3 somewhat similar short stories. Lanthimos' melancholy look is of course present and what is visually slightly inferior to Poor Things is made up for with great absurdism and even more WTF moments.
