How to Build a Girl plot

How to Build a Girl follows a slightly chubby, smart and funny 16-year-old girl who tries to escape her life in the small, busy house in Wolverhampton and moves to London. Well, I actually thought this was a nice movie. Had it for a while but didn't feel like looking. Don't always expect problems from a fat girl. It's a good thing she has a talent after all, otherwise she would have remained a nobody... just like the rest of us. But she reaches the top very quickly and then collapses again and becomes an adult within a year. All exaggerated and predictable but great to watch. I liked her family.

Johanna Morrigan [Beanie Feldstein] is a dreamer in a dull Wolverhampton neighborhood who completely botches her participation in a televised poetry reading competition due to her nervousness. However, she continues to write and when she lands a job as a rock critic at a young music magazine, she decides to reinvent herself as the flamboyant Dolly Wilde. This gives her sex, fame and popularity with the general public, but also alienates her from her family. Feldstein's thick accent is not entirely convincing and the screenplay has few surprises, but Feldstein's energy and enthusiasm make up for a lot. And many top figures from the British comedy world appear in small roles.

Nice fresh film.

The plump but not too unattractive Joanna lives her boring life in an English neighborhood and spends most of her time daydreaming. She is convinced that she can write poetry and writing and that is often a mess (as I know myself).

You become shy of people, no one likes you and no one takes you seriously... and the moment you attempt to take a step further, you fall into the trap of your own blunder and you can still hear about it from your neighbors .

Joanna listens to the old legends that hang on the walls in her room and elsewhere. The old poets, philosophers and writers tell her how to handle it and that she can be there. This gives her encouragement not to give up. Ultimately it takes her to the capital, to an A&R office, where masculinity is not much different than at an average construction site.

Ultimately, she manages to be convincing under her pseudonym. A type who goes against all his own principles, but who achieves more success than if he were himself. By being a shrew. But how long can she maintain that success and how long will she continue to ignore her world-famous friends on her walls?

HTBAG knows how to portray it in a beautiful and comical way. The dilemma that exists when you want to be seen and the consequences thereof. Nice supporting roles from her family members too, from an over-optimistic father to an indifferent mother to annoying brothers. The era of the 90s is also set up quite well.

I could do something with this.

4.0*
