Het Irritante Eiland plot

'The Annoying Island' is about an island that has been cursed by a witch. This makes everyone walking around on the island annoying. There is only one boy who can break the curse. A film full of non-rhyming raps, singing referees, talking puppets and heroic actions.

Well-written and often very funny comedy for the whole family is set on an island that, according to legend, has been cursed by a witch, causing everyone on the island to always behave annoyingly. The only exception is Hunter [Matsen Montsma] who immediately notices that his new classmate Aafje [Ivy Ribbens] is not annoying at all. When the Prime Minister [Stefan Stasse] opens a bridge connection to the mainland, the hydrophobic Hunter finally dares to visit the mainland. There he realizes that something is wrong with the island. With Aafje's help and a tip from the mysterious Lidia [Tjitske Reidinga], Hunter wants to try to lift the curse. The young protagonists do a great job and the behavior of the people on the island will regularly make you (with a big smile) sigh: “How annoying!” The highlight is Aafje's first reception in her new class, but I also hated Rienus Krul as Hunter's father, who has a downright annoying obsession... with dolls!

A pretty brilliant premise for a movie as far as I'm concerned, and the plot elaboration doesn't disappoint. The details are a bit less: there could have been a lot more annoying vignettes, the dialogues could have been a bit more pointed and absurd, and the playing of the two youthful protagonists is not particularly natural. But the supporting characters (the nasty librarian, the grumpy mother, the TV reporter with his orange microphone) are regularly hilarious, the frame story works effectively, and the (again) great premise drags the film over all the bumps anyway.

Just a really fun childhood/family film.

With quite a few well-known actors who really all contribute to a wonderfully "irritating" film full of funny jokes.

Also very nice that they have a gay couple in this film.

You can't tell early enough that there is more than male/female relationships...

Even though I don't belong to the youth for a long time, I really enjoyed this movie
