The diagnosis of leukemia for top conductor Thibaut [Benjamin Lavernhe] also leads to the discovery that Rose is [Mathilde Courcol-Rozès]. Thibaut turns out to be an adopted child and to have a brother. Thibaut manages to track down Jimmy [Pierre Lottin] and convinces him to donate bone marrow and tries to build something of a band. Jimmy plays trombone in the local brass band, so you can guess where this is going. Formulaic comedy drama lacks the charm of Fanfare and the emotional depth of Brassed Off (from which the screenplay does borrow richly). Completely predictable, but the denouement is moving. A great success in its own country France, where people apparently crave simplistic escapism and can't get enough of actors with Down syndrome as comic relief.

Nice....

Lacks just too much to really make up for it.

The story meanders along a bit and is pleasant to watch, but that's about it.

In my opinion a typical French "feelgood" film where mediocre drama and comedy soaked in all clichés find each other. Northern France where despite the cold and misery blunt but friendly coal mine workers support each other with music and drinks. A twisted story in which abrupt time jumps are no problem, everything for the feelgood. Not bad but not very impressive as far as I'm concerned.
